Another Adelaide Winner

Cosmic Kheleyf

Cosmic Kheleyf

Cosmic Kheleyf (pictured at Lauriston Thoroughbred Farm’s 2012 yearling parade) was sent out at bolter odds in a small field of 3yos over 1,000 metres  at Morphettville yesterday. After settled at the rear of the field jockey Simon Price took an inside run to move up behind the leaders. When there was no further room on the rail the big black gelding muscled his way off the fence to tackle the front runners. Extending his neck he closed quickly  to win in the final stride. Replay Race 3 Morphettville 19 Oct 2013

In just his second race start Cosmic Kheleyf became the sixty-sixth winner bred by Lauriston Thoroughbred Farm. He was among Lauriston’s Magic Millions Adelaide yearling draft in 2012 and purchased by Oakbank trainer Scott Trenowden for $27,000. Cosmic Kheleyf is by Kheleyf from Cosmic Express and appears to have a bright future.

Projects gives Shea Three Day Treble

ProjectsVlad Duric in the orange and green pushed Projects (pictured) forward during the early stages of the 1,200 metre 0-64 rating race today on Seymour Cup day. The chestnut settled just outside the race leader. He pounced at the turn and was never in doubt on the way to the post. Projects won by a length and a half. “He and deserved the win,” said trainer Shea Eden, “he has issues and we have been very patient with him”.

Projects’ win today made it three from three for Shea. On Friday night Trinity House won the last at Cranbourne and yesterday Chilly Reception saluted at Bendigo.

Yesterday last start winner Swipeline with apprentice Harry Coffey on board stepped out at Morphettville in the last over 1200 metres. Although slow to start Harry droveSwipeline through the field early to lead. The pair controlled the race. The chestnut stole a big break at the turn. Runner-up Jimmy The Butch swooped from last to finish three lengths behind Swipeline. A replay can be seen at this link: Morphettville 12 Oct 2013 Race 8

Lauriston Thoroughbred Farm (LTF) bred Swipeline (by Sequalo) was purchased at Inglis Premier Sale in 2011 by trainer Tony McEvoy. Swipeline’s dam Encapsulate has a Bel Esprit colt at foot and was covered by Toorak Toff last Friday.

Swipeline Again

Lauriston Thoroughbred Farm bred Swipeline was purchased at Inglis Premier Sale in 2011 by Tony McEvoy. Swipeline debuted as favourite in the $250,000 Inglis banner race on Cox Plate day later that year. He was the fastest finisher but had to settle for third.

Yesterday Swipeline enjoyed his second race win at Morphettville from just nine career starts. Once again he was the race favourite. Swipeline was not quick from the barriers but Jamie Kah pushed him up beneath runners from the inside gate to find the front spot. He maintained the lead throughout to the post managing to hold out the late closers by three quarters of a length.

Indiana Shows Plenty Of Heart

Indiana Heart (Show A Heart x Nova Gen) left her rider at the gates on debut at the Gold Coast. A month ago in her second start she made up late ground to finish runner up behind race leader and winner Sizzling Song at the Sunshine Coast.

Yesterday trainer Nicky Harrison opted to race the mare over 1,200 metres at the same venue. Ric McMahon took the ride. It would be her third start.  The punters had obviously been impressed with her previous effort and she was backed into favouritism. Once again Indiana buy tadalafil Heart settled toward the rear but the extra 200 metres suited and displaying a strong turn of foot she found the line strongly to win by half a length.

In doing so Indiana Heart became the 65th individual winner bred at Lauriston Thoroughbred Farm. She is a half-sister to She’ll Avago (by Perugino) and Nova Spirit (by Bel Esprit).

Equissential’s Sensational Sectionals

Equissential pictured a week earlier at Eagle Farm

Neville Saunders’ instructions to apprentice Alisha Taylor were to ride Equissential forward in the seventh at Doomben yesterday – an open handicap over 1600 metres.  But Equissential found the early tempo too hot and instead settled at the other end of the field. Front runners Cuddlesome and Epic Terra set a cracking pace and seemed to have the race to themselves but Alisha and Equissential who seemed to be in a hopeless position at the turn had other ideas. Alisha plotted a course wider out and Equissential ate up the ground. The photo showed that Equissential had edged out the two front runners.

“That was a terrific win,” said Neville Saunders after the race. “It didn’t go to plan, in fact at one stage I’d almost given up (on his chance of winning)”.

It was Equissential’s seventh career win and took his earnings to $326,000. Equissential’s half-brother Express Ball also raced in the orange and green.

Sorisam Continues His Red Hot Form

Sorisam’s Bairnsdale win last Saturday was his fourth win in just his last six outings.  The gelding led from start to finish and was not threatened at any stage. He won the 1,000 metre bench mark 70 race by more than a length.

“Sorisam bounced better than expected,” explained Ricky after the race. “Dean (Holland) let him hold the front position rather than bringing him back to the field. That’s why that was such a good win – it was against his usual racing pattern”

It was Sorisam’s eighth career win and took his earnings to $98,750.

Sorisam Goes 3 from 5

Sorisam began his race career in blistering form winning three of his first four race starts. Nearly three years later he has returned to that form winning three races in his last five starts.

Last Friday Ricky Maund presented Sorisam in a 1,000 metre showcase race at Geelong. Dean Yendall picked up the ride. Sorisam travelled beautifully throughout. Uncharacteristically the gelding jumped well and Dean positioned him third behind the early leaders.  The $30,000 event had attracted a strong field but at the turn it was evident that the Sorisam was the most likely. With a quick turn of foot in the straight Sorisam went on to win comfortably.

Crabbing Goes Back to Back

Crabbing (Pictured as a yearling)

Yesterday Crabbing made it consecutive wins after his impressive run in the 2yo handicap at Morphettville’s Parks track over 1000 metres. Positive from the outset Todd Parnell took Crabbing to the front.  After straightening he stole a race winning 4 length break. Crabbing held out the late closers to win by a length.

Crabbing (Holy Roman Emperor x Orpenella) was bred by Lauriston Thoroughbred Farm and purchased by trainer Jon O’Connor at Adelaide’s Magic Millions Sale. The 2yo has now doubled his purchase price winning $52,200 from just four career starts. All of his runs have been at Morphettville, but this was his first run on the inside track.

Race Replays (Crabbing’s wins):

Gallant Express (LTF yearling Parade 2012)

Gallant Express (LTF yearling Parade 2012)

Earlier at Caulfield Gallant Express, another LTF bred 2yo, was making his debut. On paper it appeared a classy field and the race didn’t disappoint. Robbie Lang’s Danerich colt Lord Of The Sky was dominant leading throughout to win by a 3.5 lengths. Next best was million dollar colt Monkstone who missed the start but was impressive and strong in the closing stages. Gallant Express performed admirably, sticking to his task to finish third. Trainer Doug Harrison reported that Gallant Express is a promising type who will only improve as he gets older.
