As a two year old Barnato (3g Redoute’s Choice – Glimmers by Success Express), a graduate from Lauriston Thoroughbred Farm’s draft at the 2013 Inglis Premier yearling sale, won the S$195,000 Aus-bred bonus in Singapore. Returning as a three year old Barnato notched up two seconds from two starts before he was given a short break by trainer Patrick Shaw. He commenced his next preparation in the third at Singapore last Friday over 1,200 metres. Jockey Nooresh Juglall took him to the front from the outset and Barnato led all of the way to win by two lengths.

Alcobro (3g Bianconi – Tendue by General Nediym) was another Lauriston bred 3yo who appears to have ability. The Richard Jolly trained gelding had won both his career starts before tackling a small field at Morphettville yesterday. Alcobro was sent out as the odds-on favourite. Regular rider Jake Toeroek took him to the front and he led throughout managing to hold out late finisher Bokara Road to win by less than half a length. Alcobro is a full brother to the well performed 6yo Alcohol and a half-brother to Couperin (5yo Ne Coupez Pas). Last Monday Couperin won at Coonabarabran for new trainer Sue Grills.

Polinelli (4g Hard Spun – Inthemix by Easy Rocking) had won in his previous start a fortnight ago at Avoca. But he was sent out at long odds in the first leg of the quaddie over 1,450 metres at Kilmore today. Damien Thornton was on for his father and trainer Glenn Thornton. He was happy to let the 4yo settle at the back of the field. After the turn Damien looked for a path inside horses and Polinelli responded gaining on the front runners. Lauriston Thoroughbred Farm would like to congratulate the connections of Barnato, Alcobro, Couperin and Polinelli on their last start victories.

Shane Nichols stepped Godavari (4g Lonhro – Entango by Entrepreneur) out to a mile for the first time in the third at Moe last Thursday. With Mark Zahra on he was taken back where he over raced in the early stages before working into the race from the 600 metres. Although wide he strode to the lead after straightening and was strong to the line to win by three lengths. Godavari had been galloped on the near hind leg during the run making the win even more impressive.

Godavari, pictured above as a yearling, had been placed in his first three starts, including finishing runner up to subsequent dual Group 1 winner Trust in A Gust on debut and missing in a photo at his third start.

Godavari was not the only winning Lauriston bred horse that Mark Zahra rode last week. Nick Harnett’s Chiavari (3f Teofilo – Nova Gen by General Nediym) was debuting at Cranbourne’s Friday night meeting in the third over 1000 metres for fillies. Although it was her first start she hadn’t been missed by punters who sent her out as the $2.10 favourite. Her ability had been exposed four weeks earlier in a Cranbourne trial where she finished a close up third without Mark Zahra moving a muscle.

On Friday Mark was positive and rode the filly in a forward position although wide. Chiavari (pictured) handled her first race well and when asked at the 200 found another gear to run away to a 2.5 length victory. It was certainly an exciting start to the filly’s career.

Nick Harnett is proving to be an astute judge of horse flesh. He has purchased three yearlings from Lauriston Thoroughbred Farm Magic Millions’ Adelaide draft over three different years. In 2010 Nick purchased Cavallo Nero. Cavallo Nero has won four races for Nick, earned more than $140,000 and been placed at Group 3 level. Nick purchased Chiavari in 2013 and earlier this year he purchased a striking chestnut colt be Star Witness from Articulation.

Not to be outdone another first time winner with the LTF brand returned to the winners stall. Polinelli (4g Hard Spun – Inthemix by Easy Rocking) won yesterday. Polinelli (pictured as a yearling) won his maiden over 1300 metres at Avoca yesterday for Boris Thornton who was riding for his father and trainer Glenn Thornton.

Lauriston Thoroughbred Farm would like to congratulate all of the winning connections of Godavari, Chiavari and Polinelli. Respectively the three are the 82nd, 83rd and 84th individual winners bred at Lauriston Thoroughbred Farm.

Last Friday night kicked of the night racing season at Moonee Valley featuring the Group 1 Moir Stakes won by tough campaigner Buffering. The first race on the card was a 1,200 metres sprint for 3yos worth $100,000 with a further $30,000 Super VOBIS bonus.

A month earlier Super VOBIS qualified Tudor (3c Strategic – Tendue) pictured by Bruno Cannatelli had contested the listed McKenzie Stakes which was won by promising Ken Keys 3yo Rich Enuff. Tudor was unlucky in running and shuffled back toward the rear and never really in contention. Trainer Doug Harrison chose to give him a week off in the paddock before bringing him back into work.

On Friday Tudor had drawn the wide gate. Craig Williams’ plan was to roll him forward and let him breeze. The field jumped evenly and Craig pushed the colt forward to the lead. Unpressured, Craig was able to give Tudor a midrace breather. He stole a break after quickening at the turn and then responded to Craig’s riding in the straight to lengthen even further. Tudor went on to win effortlessly by more than two lengths. Race replay: 26 Sep 14 Moonee Valley.

Tudor is by Darley Victoria’s stallion Strategic from Lauriston Thoroughbred Farm’s Skidoodle (by Encosta de Lago). It was his second career victory from just seven starts.

A week earlier another Lauriston Thoroughbred farm bred 3yo was led into the winner’s stall. Danefleur (Danewin x Flower Power) had suffered setbacks before having her first start on Saturday 20th September at Moe in a 1,200 metre maiden for 3yos.

Drawn wide Darren Gauci was positive from the jump on Danefleur. Down In Mayo was reluctant to give up the lead and the two eyeballed each other for the majority of the race. Finally Danefleur gained the upper hand and managed to hold off A Bit Sketchy who closed late. “She had a lot of pressure on her from the outset,” commented trainer Ricky Maund after the race “But she was tough. It was a super debut.”

Morphettville based trainer Richard Jolly purchased Lot 152, a chestnut colt (pictured as a yearling) by Bianconi from Tendue, at Adelaide’s 2010 Magic Millions yearling sale from Lauriston Thoroughbred Farm for $25,000. The yearling was syndicated among a large group of owners and was named Alcohol.

Without winning Alcohol showed enough early promise for Jolly to send him to Victoria to tackle a $100,000 race at Moonee Valley. Alcohol won the mile race by half a length. He was ineligible for the $100,000 extra bonus offered by Inglis on the race, however he was qualified for Super VOBIS and that entitled to a share of the $30,000 Super VOBIS bonus.

During his next preparation, Alcohol was runner up at Group 3 level in the Chairman’s Stakes over 2,000 metres at Morphettville and performed admirably in the SA Derby.  He won twice at Morphettville during his next preparation before embarking again on an interstate raid into Victoria for another $100,000 race. This time the venue was Flemington and the journey 2,000 metres. He won by a length and a half.

Last Saturday with Jake Toeroek on board Alcohol returned to racing after an injury enforced lay off. He was sent out at long odds over the 1,200 metre Morphettville journey, but the punters had it wrong. Grinding late Alcohol fell in to record his fifth victory and increased his career prizemoney to more than $240,000.

Jolly also purchased a full brother to Alcohol (pictured as a yearling) at Adelaide’s 2013 Magic Millions yearling sale from Lauriston Thoroughbred Farm for $36,000. This yearling was named Alcobro and Alcobro shares many of the same owners as his older brother.

Yesterday Alcobro had his first race start at Halidon over 1,000 metres. And just like Alcohol Jake Toeroek wearing Jolly’s blue silks with a pink fleur-de-lys, yellow sleeves and a blue cap was up. Alcobro over raced outside the leader but was strong when it mattered and ran away in the latter stages to win by more than three lengths. Alcobro has a long way to go to match the feats of his older brother – but it was certainly an inspiring start.

Four year old gelding Two Way Street (Street Cry x Street Smart – pictured as a yearling) was the third horse to carry the LTF brand into the winners stall for the weekend. Impressively, in just his third race start, he won the first at Deagon by more than six lengths.

Tudor, pictured as a yearling, stepped out at midweek city class last Wednesday at Bendigo in a 3yo race for colts and geldings over 1,100m. Tudor was taken to the lead by apprentice Jake Bayliss setting up an opportunity to display his turn of foot. He did not disappoint and stole a race winning break from the bend. Runner up Fast Cash was not comfortable racing along the fence inside runners and was taken back and then outside to the better part of the track. The Wendy Kelly trained gelding stormed home impressively and looks like a horse with a bright future. Tudor held off the late finisher to win by more than a length. The race carried Super VOBIS and VOBIS Gold bonuses. Tudor collected bonuses and prize money totalling $42,000.

Lauriston Thoroughbred Farm bred Tudor is by Strategic from Encosta de Lago mare Skidoodle. Skidoodle’s first foal is 5yo Velonski by Falvelon. Velonski, pictured as a two year old courtesy of previous part owner Karen Hyland, won on just the day prior at Mackay. It was his first race in his new stable for trainer Phillip Pengelly.  Although only small he again proved his toughness carrying 59kgs to victory. Velonski has now won five races and earned more than $130,000.

Ricky Maund explained his decision to send Coupe Express to Morphettville yesterday,  “She is racing in her career best form and deserves a chance at city grade”.  It proved to be a winning decision. “Even though she has won two of her recent starts from the front I let Todd know that she didn’t have to be ridden forward”.

Coupe Express jumped well in the 0-82 mares race over 1,200 metres, but Todd Pannell didn’t push her in the early stages, and that decision allowed her to be strong in the closing stages. Finishing fast she bobbed her head when it mattered to edge out Kill Bill who ran a game second. Race Replay R4 Morphettville 05 July 14

The win was Lauriston Throughbred Farm’s Coupe Express’ sixth – her third victory from her last five starts and took her career earnings to more than $90,000.

Coupe Express was not the only horse in the orange and green to salute yesterday. Equissential resumed after a lengthy break at Toowoomba in a benchmark 75 race over 1,200 metres. With apprentice Emma Ljung up the rising 7yo bullocked his way into clear running room before powering to the line to win by over a length.

It was the eighth win for the Neville Saunders trained gelding and raised his prize money beyond $330,000. “He’s returned in great shape and I’m really looking forward to this preparation”.

Coupe Express was quickest to jump from the the wide gate in the 64 benchmark rated  Swan Hill race for fillies and mares over 1,300m on Saturday. Dean Holland allowed her to cross and lead to the bend. After the turn Dean took the Ricky Maund trained mare off the fence into the better going. Coupe Express remained strong to the line to win by more than two lengths.

Coupe Express was bred at Lauriston Thoroughbred Farm. It was her second win from her last three starts.
