This athletic colt is the second foal of the multiple stakes placed mare Yatala, who is by More than Ready mare. He stands over plenty of ground as did his sire Artie Schiller.  His sire Artie Schiller was a Breeders’ Cup Mile winner and producer of Group 1 winners. Lot 1933      Bay/Br Colt     Artie Schiller x Apolina
This well related colt is a half brother to recent Hong Kong winner and Group 2 Sandown Guineas place getter Apollo’s Choice. Apollo’s Choice is the only progeny of Rubiton mare Apolina to race. Apolina is a full sister to multiple black type winning sprinter Prince Rubiton.
His sire Artie Schiller was a Breeders’ Cup Mile winner and producer
of Group 1 winners.

A strong, thick boned colt with a well rounded hind quarter and deep girth. He is an outstanding example of his sire Denman and Redoute’s Choice all in one horse. He is the second foal of the multiple stakes related Redoute’s Choice mare Flawless Choice, a four time and metro winner herself.  An excellent evolutionary product of the proven Lonhro x Danehill cross.

There is a bit of ‘X’ factor about this well balanced flashy colt. He is out of Encosta De Lago mare Skidoodle. Skidoodle has already produced promising 3yo sprinter Tudor who has earned black type recently (May 2015) finishing runner up at Group 2 level and previously at listed level in open company.
His sire, Helmet, a son of Exceed And Excel, won at Group 1 level
on 3 occasions, twice as a 2yo and once as a 3yo in the Caulfield
Guineas. Helmet’s progeny have not yet raced.

This quality colt is the first foal from Commands mare Candy Stripes. Candy Stripes finished third at listed level and is the daughter of Group 2 winner and Group 1 runner up Candy Vale.
His sire is one of the hottest young stallions in Australia. Sebring won the Golden Slipper and is the sire of multiple Group 1 winners Dissident and Criterion and others.

He is from Encosta de Lago mare Emily De Lago. Emily De Lago is a half sister to black type winner Shanghai Warrior and the dam of
listed runner up Zellindi.

Inthemix is a 2yo city winning mare and a full sister to $1million earner and regular blacktype performer Pepperwood. She has produced two foals to race – both winners including Polinelli who strung 3 wins in a row earlier this season.

Pride Of Encosta is a daughter of champion sire Encosta De Lago. She is out of the good broodmare and well related Pride Of Ingenue. Pride Of Ingenue produced 4 times Group 1 runner up Atapi and listed place getter Silence Prevails.

Pride of Encosta is in foal to freshman stallion Shamus Award.
Shamus Award was Australia’s top rated 3yo during the 2013/14
season when he won the Group 1 Cox Plate and the Group 1 Australian
Guineas.

Blue Diamond (4g. Tale Of The Cat – Mighty Atalanta by Mighty Avalanche) made it back to back wins at Singapore last Friday – both by the closest of margins.

After racing on the speed Blue Diamond looked as though he would be run down by a late finishing Invincible Man, however Blue Diamond with Nooresh Juglall up fought on strongly to hold on and win the race over the 1,100 metre trip on April 24.

Manoel Nunes was on board the Alvin Tan trained 4yo in his next start over the 1,000 metre trip. Again Blue Diamond raced on speed and was tough when it mattered to edge out front runner Lively Dragon and third place getter Eatons Gold who loomed late.

Apollo’s Choice (4g. Choisir – Apolina by Rubiton) won the richest race on the card at Sha Tin last Sunday – A HK$1,500,000 mile race on the turf track for Australian trainer David Hall. It was Douglas Whyte’s fourth win for the day. From the inside gate Whyte positioned Apollo’s Choice in the box seat. 350metres from home Whyte took a run inside the front runner Sichaun Exec. Despite being tightened for room Apollo’s Choice pushed through and was strong to the line holding out race favourite Celestial Smile by a length.

The win was Apollo’s Choice’s third  from just eight career starts and his first in Hong Kong.

Apollo’s Choice was purchased at Inglis’ Premier Sale in 2013 by Shea Eden. He won his first two starts before a luckless fourth at listed level at Flemington. He backed up in the following week into the Group 2 Sandown Guineas where he finished third.

On the strength of those performances Apollo’s Choice was sold to Hong Kong where he joined David Hall’s stable. He sustained a minor ligament injury after his first start at his new home before being rested and gelded. He displayed some of his ability in his next two starts, hitting the front in his race on the 8th of March before fading. He then won a trial before his victory yesterday.

Apollo’s Choice was bred at Lauriston Thoroughbred Farm and is the first foal to race from Rubiton mare Apolina.

Lot 276 – Inglis Easter Yearling Sale Ch f Street Cry x Amarazetti

Lauriston Thoroughred Farm’s sole entry into Inglis’s Easter Yearling Sale is Lot 276 a stunning chestnut filly by Street Cry from Group 3 placed Commands mare Amarazetti, from the family of Group 1 winners I Like Diamonds and Hill of Grace.

The filly will be presented by one of Victoria’s leading vendor’s Three Bridges Thoroughbreds who will be offering a select draft of three yearlings at the sale.

Ill fated Street Cry is an amazingly versatile stallion with global appeal. He produced USA horse of the year Zenyatta as well as Steet Sense, Street Boss and others. He has been super successful in Australia leaving a Melbourne Cup hero in Shocking, a brilliant Blue Diamond winner in Pride of Dubai and everything in between. Both Shocking and Pride Of Dubai are out of daughters of Danehill. Lot 276 is bred on a similar cross. Amarazetti is by Commands a son of Danehill.

Amarazetti has produced three older foals: City winner Ms Mazetti (3f. Lonhro x Amarazetti) finished 0.2length second behind Bullpit on debut while edging out Rich Enuff into 3rd before winning at Caulfield in her next start; Recent winner Zettfidaa (4f. Red Ransom x Amarazetti); and Realise The Dream (2f. More Than Ready x Amarazetti) who has trialled well recently for trainer Mick Price.

“This filly is strong, very muscular with lovely loose movement and being by Street Cry she could end up well placed in a number of countries, so she certainly looks like a yearling with a very positive future,” said Three Bridges’ Toby Liston.

“Lauriston Thoroughbreds have done a terrific job in raising her and no doubt her Super VOBIS eligibility will spark some Victorian interest given the amazing prize money and bonuses on offer.”

Lot 276 Pedigree

Swiftly Red proved too strong at Bendigo to notch the second win of her prep for Mornington-based trainer Tony Noonan in the Andy’s Earthmovers Handicap over 1400m.

Holding off a late challenge in the final 50m of the race, Swiftly Red held on by a head for connections at Laurel Oak Bloodstock who race a number of horses with Noonan with the partnership enjoying an excellent season together.

“I’ve got to give a lot of thanks to my foreman Viv Bertrand and Lisa Jones who manages our farm,” Noonan said.

“They have done a lot of work with the mare who has had muscle enzyme problems in the past and a lot of people have worked extremely hard and got a lot out of her.”

Swiftly Red, a 4-year-old Testa Rossa mare, was having the fifth run and second victory of her campaign but Noonan expects even more to come as the tracks begin softening as winter approaches.

Jockey Nick Hall returned to the saddle to partner Swiftly Red and maintained his perfect strike with two wins from two rides aboard to mare.

Jumping from barrier 1, Swiftly Red pinged out of the gates forcing Lilian to work hard in the early stages to find the lead.

Settling Swiftly Red in the run, Hall eventually gave up the lead but gave his mare the dream run in transit on the fence, one behind Lilian.

Peeling out at the top of the straight, Hall peeled out and balanced up Swiftly Red ($4.60) who was strong to the line to score by a head from Deeming ($6.00) and Ungreatful Ellen ($2.70) in third.

“I was happy to switch her over to the left and it really got her through the line,” Hall said.

Apollo’s Choice had his classic aspirations ended before they even started but the David Hall-trained Australian import may yet collect some cheques this season after a confidence-building dirt trial win at Sha Tin on Tuesday.

A two-time winner over sprint trips and third in the Group Two Sandown Guineas over a mile, Apollo’s Choice ran once over 1,400m for Hall before a tendon injury picked up in trackwork sidelined the son of Choisir and put paid to any chance of pushing for a place in the four-year-old races.

A gelding operation followed in early November and Apollo’s Choice returned with a game unplaced effort over 1,400m after jumping from gate 10 and sitting wide in an on-pace dominated contest.

Stepping up to a mile in a competitive Class Two, Apollo’s Choice was a sound fifth, hitting the front briefly in the straight before being overwhelmed by some race-fit opposition.

Apollo’s Choice is now rated 83, down from 86 when he arrived, and yesterday’s 1,200m heat win will have him up to the mark fitness-wise for his next race start.

Douglas Whyte has ridden Apollo’s Choice at his last two starts and was aboard in the trial, getting a clean break to find the box seat in a slowly run trial. When trial leader Level Player drifted from the fence in the straight, Whyte seized an opportunity to give Apollo’s Choice a nice blow-out over the final 200m, booting up on the inside to score by a nose.

Even though the overall time of 1.11.01s was slow on a track that has been playing faster than ever, the final 400m of 22.8s indicated that the final furlong was a decent test.

The Lauriston draft will be available for inspection from Thursday 5th March at Magic Millions’ Morphettville sales complex. The yearlings will be stabled in Barn 3 Row A.

Lot 63       Ch Colt        Bianconi x Empowering
This athletic colt by Bianconi is the first foal from General Nediym mare Empowering. Empowering is a full sister to Tendue dam of Group 3 runner up Alcohol who has won in excess of $250,000 and Alcobro who remains undefeated in his 3 starts to date. Both Alcohol and Alcobro are by Bianconi making this yearling colt, nicknamed Alcocuzz, is a 100% blood relation.

This strong Wanted colt is the second foal from Off The Planet. Off The Planet is a city performer who has won more than $130,000. Off The Planet is a half sister to Laetitia dam of black type performers Stryker, Exeed & Exalt, Puerto Banus and Seeking Attention.

This well balanced colt is by Domesday from Orpenella, a half sister to black type performers Booroonga and Astro Gains. Orpenella has produced four foals to race. All are winners.

Lot 231     Bay Filly      Magic Albert x Swift Sands
This nicely put together filly by Magic Albert is the first foal from Swift Sands. Swift Sands was an early sprinting mare who won 5 races and more than $100,000. Her dam, Quite Astute was placed at Group 3 level.

Lot 237     Ch Filly       Nicconi x Tango Express
This athletic filly by Nicconi is the first foal from Success Express mare Tango Express. Tango Express was a regular city class sprinting performer who won on four occasions.

Lot 285    Bay Colt      Foreplay x Articulation
This strong colt by Foreplay is the second foal from winning mare Articulation. Articulation is from the family of Group 1 performer Etoile D’or and Chincilla Rose and Star Witness, etc.

The Dan O’Sullivan-trained colt was sent out a raging hot favourite in the Whiteheads Timber Maiden Plate (1000m) and didn’t disappoint, unleashing a strong finishing burst to score a runaway two-and-a-quarter-length win.

Rock of Glory’s success arrives at his seventh career outing and after a persistent campaign that began in November last year when he debuted at Hamilton.

It continues the stable’s good recent association with champion jockey Damien Oliver, who also rode stablemate Leicameares to victory at Ballarat last month.

Oliver said the step back in trip worked well for Rock of Glory, whose past two runs had been over 1200m and 1209m.

“I think it was a smart idea by Dan bringing him back to the 1000m, just teaching him how to pace himself,” Oliver said.

“He got a bit of speed, was able to sit in behind and he was just going in the straight – only did what he had to do – but after the line he ran right through the line and finished off good.

“I think he has certainly got room for improvement when he learns to pace himself a bit better.”

Swiftly Red (4m. Testa Rossa – General Resolve by General Nediym) broke through for her long awaited maiden win at Sale this afternoon for Mornington-based trainer Tony Noonan to also claim the $14,000 VOBIS Gold owners bonus for Laurel Oak Bloodstock.

The 4-year-old Testa Rossa mare appears back to her best following her last preparation which Noonan described as “disappointing”.

“She showed a lot as a 3-year-old and she’s finally enjoying her racing again,” Noonan said.

“I’m rapt for Louis Mihalyka and his crew at Laurel Oak who race a lot of horses with us.

“With the VOBIS bonus available here, we targeted the mare at this race and it’s just a great feeling when plans come to fruition like this because we knew she had the ability to win and it was just a matter of getting her to focus.

“At the start of the prep, I was confident that she would be racing in the city by the end of this prep so I look forward to seeing her work through the grades.”

Jumping from barrier 6 in the field of 14, jockey Nick Hall appeared in trouble early when Swiftly Red started pulling and racing keenly.

Amidst the big field, Hall maneuvered Swiftly Red to the outside with cover to travel forward of midfield enabling the mare to eventually settle.

“I was a little bit worried when she started to overrace but Nick did a great job getting her to relax and give her open running room which is what she has always needed to focus on her job,” Noonan said.

Upon straightening, the gap opened for Hall to bring Swiftly Red ($4.60) into the race where she hit the lead at the 150m mark and hold off the field to score by 1.75L from Sequins ‘N’ Spice ($14) and Lexinator ($4.40F) in third.
