Al Jandar Looks The Goods

Al Jandar had his first race start – A 1100 metre race for two year old maidens at Ararat on Monday 31st May. Ryan Maloney settled the gelding on the pace. Upon straightening Al Jandar

moved up a gear and quickly raced clear from the on pacers.  Ryan glanced over his shoulders 150 metres from home and saw that the backmarkers were not making ground either. Al Jandar won by more than four lengths.

After the race, Ryan indicated that the gelding should be able to get over further ground and may make city grade.

Al Jandar is by Al Samer out of Canny Lad mare Cica Cica Boom. The win makes him the twenty-ninth individual winner bred at Lauriston. He is also the third two year winner this season from Lauriston mares. General Truce won the Group 3 Marybyrnong Plate during Flemington’s spring carnival and Powerful Pegasus won the first two legs of Alice Spring’s two year old race series this Autumn by a combined margin of eleven lengths.

Al Jandar was purchased by trainer Robbie Griffiths for owner Rosemary Thomson from Lauriston at Inglis’ 2009 Premier sale in Melbourne.
