Patrick Moloney Lands a Lauriston Double

Rapid Link

Apprentice Patrick Moloney rode a winning double yesterday for different stables at different venues. Both horses were bred by Lauriston Thoroughbred Farm and presented at the 2011 Inglis Premier yearling sale.

Rapid link (pictured as a yearling), purchased and trained by John Moloney was first up after a spell at Kyneton over 1,100 metres. Patrick rode the mare three wide on the speed. She proved too strong in the concluding stages and ran away from the rest of the field to win by a length.

Velonski

Velonski greeted in the winning stall by excited connections

Later in the last race at Cranbourne’s night meeting Patrick was on Greg Eurell’s Velonski. There was only one other horse behind Velonski in running, and as they bunched at the turn it appeared that he may need luck. But Patrick made the right move pushing him out to the middle of the track into clear running and the gelding displayed a quick turn of foot to win by nearly a length. In the winning stalls the pair were greeted by a crowd of excited owners and members of the Hancox Racing No 5 syndicate. It was Velonski’s fourth win and tipped his prize money beyond $120,000.
