Shea Eden programmed Apollo’s Choice’s debut run in the first at Benalla today over 1215 metres. Luke Currie settled the 2yo midfield. When the pace slowed Luke moved the horse into the race. Apollo’s Choice loomed outside the leaders but took some time to find his feet after straightening before letting down. He won by a narrow margin just edging out Our Casanova.

“That was a good win” said Shea Eden after the race. “What he did today was on raw ability alone – he is still very green. It’s great to get a win under his belt at this stage but I’ll probably tip him out now. He’ll be better at three and he  looks like he will get 1400 or a mile.”

Attached to the race was a Super VOBIS and VOBIS Gold bonuses that boosted the Benalla maiden prizemoney for first from $9,000 to $27,410. Apollo’s Choice became the 61st individual winner bred at Lauriston Thoroughbred Farm. He is by Choisir and the first live foal from Apolina, a full sister to Prince Rubiton.
