Coupe Express became Lauriston’s fortieth individual winner when she won the 2yo 1200 metre fillies maiden plate at Warrnambool today.  With Andrew Mallyon on board she ran on the pace throughout the race. At the turn the leaders fell away, leaving Coupe Express in front. It looked all over, however Not To Bee drew alongside her. The track was heavy and it became a gritty slug fest down the straight. For a moment Not To Bee headed Coupe Express. But the chestnut responded to the challenge and doggedly regained the front when it mattered. There was more than three lengths to the third horse.

“She would be better on top of the ground and could quite possibly get a mile” reported Andrew Mallyon after the race.

Coupe Express was well placed by trainer Ricky Maund. The race was worth $15,000 and carried $9,000 VOBIS bonuses for eligible horses. It gave Ricky his third Victorian win in a row, after achieving back to back winners at Geelong last week.

The chestnut filly was bred at Lauriston. She is by Rangal Park Stud’s Ne Coupez Pas from Lauriston mare Gal Express. Gal Express has only had two foals at racing age. The other is a four year old Bedouin Express who was a runaway winner at Geelong last Tuesday.
