Lauriston’s Weekend Treble

Equissential may be bred to sprint but he has given every indication to his trainer, Neville Saunders, that he can stay. Last Saturday Neville stepped him out to 1600 metres in a

3yo QTIS race at Eagle Farm.

With Chris Munce aboard, Equissential, settled mid field and on the rails – closer than his customary settling position. Even money favourite Fillydelphia was at the rear. With the pace on, Just About Ready stole a break at the turn and opened up a lead of 6 lengths in the straight. Both Satch and Equissential started their runs.  Equissential took out line honours, a half head in front of tear away leader Just About Ready with Satch, a nose away third.

It was Equissential’s second win and takes his career prize money beyond the $100,000 mark.

Later at Toowoomba Crème Latte, a full brother to Caffe Francais raced in a class 2 over 1100metres. He was very impressive. Jumping from a wide gate he quickly crossed the 12 horse field. Leading to the turn, he had them off the bit, before opening a larger gap in the straight. He won, eased up by Jason Letherby, by more than four lengths. It was the gelding’s second win.

Crème Latte is a full brother to Caffe Francais and will be offered for sale at the monthly Magic Millions sale at the Gold Coast on Friday September 10.

Lauriston bred Bedouin Express has had a busy preparation stepping up to 2000 metres. Ricky Maund nominated him for a 1600 metre show case at Cranbourne yesterday. The meeting was transferred to Geelong’s all weather thoroughtrack due to the heavy weather. As a result the race distance was reduced to 1300 metres. This was not ideal for the Desert King gelding who has raced to 2000 metres in this preparation. As usual Bedouin Express settled at the rear of the field. Upon turning, Dean Yendall guided him along the rails to the lead. Down the outside, odds on favourite, Olazabal, pounced. He found the front but digging deep, Bedouin Express fought back to win by three quarters of a length. Bedouin Express is by Desert King out of Success Express mare, Gal Express.
