Bellespy Gets a Mile

Bellespy had never been tested at a mile until Neville Saunders set him for the third at Toowoomba last Saturday. Drawn in gate seven, Bellespy was caught wide toward the rear of the nine horse field shortly after jumping. Jason Letherby urged him forward and rounded the field to lead. He opened his margin at the 600, and had them all off the bit at the turn. Only Griffith Lad looked a remote chance after straightening, but Bellespy held him out by half a length with the rest spaced.

“Well he got the 1600,” said Neville after the race “… and that was after working hard early in the race.”

Bellespy was bred at Lauriston Thoroughbred Farm.
