Don't Mess With Alcohol

Trainer Richard Jolly purchased Lauriston’s 2008 Yearling by Bianconi out of Lauriston mare Tendue at Adelaide’s 2010 Magic Millions sale.

The yearling is now three and has been called Alcohol. Unlucky in his previous two starts in Adelaide, Richard felt he was up to a trip to Melbourne to compete in the $100,000 mile race for three year olds at Moonee Valley last Friday.

A crowd of Alcohol’s owners had made the trip from Adelaide to watch the race, and the maiden did not let them down.

Dean Yendall, who had won earlier in the night on Rapidement, was on board. Drawn the inside barrier Dean settled the gelding midfield on the fence. Pushing out in the straight, Alcohol joined a wall of horses vying for the line, but Alcohol was strongest and won by half a length. It was another masterful ride and completed a deserved double for Dean Yendall.

With the Super VOBIS bonus the gelding picked up $82,000 for his win. Unfortunately Alcohol was ineligible for a further $100,000 bonus offered to Inglis sale graduates if they won the race.

Alcohol became the forty-sixth individual winner bred at Lauriston

Alcohol is the second foal from General Nediym mare Tendue. Tendue’s 2010 yearling is a filly by Statue Of Liberty. She will be presented among Lauriston’s 2012 Magic Millions draft as lot 84 at Adelaide on March 13.
