Ricky’s Timely Return

Timely Truce

Timely Truce – Race 7 Kilmore 07 01 13

Timely Truce was given a freshen by trainer Ricky Maund after competing at Group 2 level at the close of the 2012 Spring carnival.

His first up run was at 1,100 metres at Kilmore yesterday with the added incentive of Super VOBIS prizemoney for the qualified gelding. Ricky Maund booked in form Adam McCabe to ride. Adam had won the previous race in a masterly ride aboard First Course for Ken Keys. Leading he had slowed and dictated the pace to narrowly hold out the late closers.

It was a different plan aboard Timely Truce. There was a good mixture of on pacers and back markers in the field and so Adam after being positive at the outset ensured that the gelding settled in a mid field position. Adam urged the gelding to challenge at the turn. The Kilmore straight is uphill and there was a strong head wind. Timely Truce had just come off a break and was not rock hard fit. Ricky had indicated that perhaps a 1,000 metre kick off may have been more preferable. The tough work was ahead. But Timely Truce is tough. He held out a late closing Tycoon Express to win by 0.3 length.

The win took Timely Truce’s earnings beyond $100,000. He has placed at listed level on three occasions including a third in the Talindert behind Caulfield Guineas winner All Too Hard.

Timely Truce was bred by Lauriston Thoroughbred Farm. His dam Gal Express has produced three foals to race – all are winners. Her fourth is an impressive Reset colt purchased by Doug Harrison at Melbourne’s 2012 yearling sales for $95,000. Her fifth is a Turffontein filly and will be among Lauriston Thoroughbred Farm’s draft at the Inglis 2013 Melbourne Yearling Sale. Lot 698.
